The recent inclusion of Human Resource Manager in a highly controversial list of the top 5 non-essential jobs (published by Straits Times) stirred debate around what is and what isn’t “essential” work. There is of course a difference between “essential” and “value adding” and whilst it is possible to argue that some functions of a Human Resource Manager may be non-essential under certain circumstances, a good HR Manager will add huge value to a company and its employees.
Many companies clearly recognise the value adding nature of the Human Resource function as hiring has continued at a senior and strategic level during the unpredictable economic conditions we are all facing.
